Woodbridge Road (Minneapolis) A 1980's contemporary home on Lake Minnetonka was converted into a transitional space with Asian overtones.
The house has 6800 square feet. The main floor was one big 60' by 40' contemporary open barn with 18 foot vaulted ceilings. The homeowner felt the space was dated and cold. The only way to designate different living areas on the main floor was through the use of furniture arrangements.
The architect designed walls to split the open living space into five different distinct rooms, each with their own ceiling structure to define the different living space. The roofline was changed by adding a perpendicular nave through the middle of the space.
The house interior was designed professionally, with neutral colors, walnut floors, and new built in dark espresso stained cabinetry. New windows and doors were installed; old vertical cedar siding and tubular railing was replaced with new James Hardy horizontal siding on the top half of the house with stucco on the bottom half. Duravit plumbing fixtures, hansgrohe faucets, all new lighting fixtures were added. Espresso colored mantel was added to the minimalist travertine stone fireplace to create a warmer, updated look.
